Will I ever change ?

Every now and then, someone tells me...

"Maggy, you should post more on social media"

"You should make more reels"

"You should do this... or that..."

But guess what ? I've been there already... and something tells me it's just not for me. 😄

I don't really enjoy exposing myself... unless I'm on stage! 🤘🎶😎

The funny thing is...

if it weren't for music, I honestly don't think I'd even be on social media...

Like I said in my recent post about my super cool Rock Justice jacket (wohooo... thank you again, Julia!! 😍), I'm old school... and proud of it.

I grew up discovering bands through tapes, vinyl records, live shows and word of mouth. I stood in line with my dad to witness all those new technologies emerging in the 90's : the walkman (like the yellow one I use in the clip for "Rocker's Confession"), the compact disc, the mini-disc, walkie-talkies (man, that was fun !!!), those gigantic first mobile phones with the big antenna that had to be unfolded (remember that ??), the fax machine, the internet, flat screens...

I used to rent albums and record them onto cassette tapes. I'd save my pocket money to buy my very first hi-fi system so I could finally listen to music that I chose, whenever I wanted. I'd patiently wait by the radio to record my favourite songs, hoping I'd catch them from the beginning and that they wouldn't start talking over them !! 😜

I'd read all the lyrics in the booklet, translate them while I was still learning English, sing along when nobody was around, listen to my favourite albums over and over again, isolate the instruments in my mind... then the backing vocals... sometimes I'd even invent harmonies that weren't there (is anyone else here doing this ??) I even imagined singing duets with my favourite artists...

There was something magical about that time...

Don't get me wrong... I love the fact that today we can connect with people from all over the world. Without the internet, many of us would never have met and many of you might never have discovered my music. For that, I'm super grateful !

But I've never been very interested in chasing attention.

I've always been much more interested in becoming better at what I do... and being proud of it.

I believe the "younger me" pic was taken around 1999, when I recorded the EP with my band "Spirittales"

As you can see, I became a little more self aware about posing for pictures 😜

Now that I've been on Patreon for a few months, I understand why I want to stay...

There's no need to be "all over the place," no pressure to constantly feed an algorithm with content and hashtags...

Like I said in a recent video (that I spent quite some time to make because I care), there's stuff that I only want to share with people who genuinely want to be there, not because a platform decided to show them one of my videos for three seconds. Feel free to watch it here :

So, will I ever change ? Yeah, probably because I never wanna stop learning.

For example, right now, I'm digging into the use of Pluggins and VST's to improve my productions.

The compressor that currently got my attention...

Recently, I stumbled on a documentary about Ann Wilson "In my Voice", the incredible singer of Heart. She's now in her seventies and decided to tell her story, not for attention but as a legacy. I relate to that so much and I can't wait to watch it fully (have you yet ??)

We're on this earth, in this body, to experience as much as possible. I believe that once we've lived those experiences, we owe it to the world to pass something on... not just the successes, but the struggles too along with the : "what I learned and might help others".

So yes... I think I am changing. But some things probably never will.

I'll always believe that a great song matters more than a perfect post...

I can't imagine changing my mind about being authentic... it can be "risky" and it requires more focus to stay on track but therefore it cannot be touched and it lasts.

A small community of passionate people is worth far more than a huge crowd that doesn't really "listen."

And honestly... I believe there are many more people out there who share that philosophy and might one day find their way over there thanks to my efforts on public posting or through your word of mouth😉
